Estelle Tew

Estelle Lee McLamb Tew, 93, of 14752 Spiveys Corner Hwy., Newton Grove, NC, passed away March 16, 2017, at Mary Gran Nursing Center, Clinton, NC. Estelle, born August 20, 1923 in Cumberland County, was the daughter of the late Cleveland McLamb and Lula Draughon McLamb, and the widow of Lambert G. Tew . Lambert and Estelle were married 67 years. She was also preceded in death by a brother Raymond McLamb. Estelle worked as was a cosmetologist in her own salon until she was 86 years old. She also worked at the families’ Peanut Shop in Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville, NC. There she made fudge, various homemade candies, and developed many friendships. She was well known for her delicious pound cakes. When she was not busy with other chores, working in her garden was a must. She always had a variety of beautiful shrubs and flowers growing in the yard and many people would stop to admire hers plants in bloom. When the vegetable garden was full, she would harvest and preserve them for family and friends. Estelle was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for many years. As a devoted Christian, She cherished her church family and Sunday School Class. She looked forward to the services and had not missed a Sunday in 2016 when she suffered a fall in October and was not able to attend again. She is survived by a daughter Barbara Tew Peele and husband Bob Peele of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Gregory Lee Peele and Nicole Peele Ferguson of Fayetteville, NC; special daughters, Ann Hinton and Phyllis Dupree, both of Willow Springs, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 19, from 4 - 6 P.M. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, 118 Fayetteville St., Clinton, NC 28328. A funeral service will be held at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11341 N. US 421 Hwy., Clinton, NC, on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. with the Reverend W. H. Calcutt and Rev. Matthew Creech, officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Tablenacle Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church, 6570 High House Rd., Salemburg, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11341 N. US 421 Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.crumpler-honeycutt.com.
