February 19, 1950 ~ November 2, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Michael D. (Mike) Bass, 67, of 4130 Taylors Bridge Hwy, Clinton, died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, NC. Mike was the 2nd son of Newberry and Flora Adams Bass of the Taylors Bridge community south of Clinton, NC, where he spent most of his life. He was a 1968 graduate of Union High School, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Vicki Jean Bullard. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, where he was the chairman of the Deacons, a Sunday School Teacher and active in many other leadership roles. He was a charter member of the Union District Athletic Booster Club, and formerly served as chairman of the Sampson County Board of Education, Union District Advisory Board, officer of Sampson County Soil and Conservation, member of National Guard Reserve, and little league coach. He was a life-long farmer, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and close friends, but his most treasured activity was watching his grandson, Cole, playing ball or fishing or farming, or whatever Cole was doing. Mike was a mentor to an immeasurable number of people, and always a true example of Christlike love. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his loving wife, Vicki Jean Bullard Bass, and his grandson, Reid Chason Bass. Mike is survived by a daughter, Kristy, of the home, a son, Brad Bass, daughter-in-law, Amy Spell Bass, and grandson, Cole Bass, all of Clinton. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister and their spouses: Newberry Jr (Deborah), Anthony (Cinda), Myron (Connie), Byron (Donna) all of Clinton and Scott (Marcelle) of Raleigh, and Karen Bass Driskill (Randy) of Wilmington. He is also survived by his 2 sisters-in-law, Deborah Bullard Harn (Paul) and Lynn Bullard McLamb (Tommy), and brother-in-law, Johnny Bullard (Denise), 21 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews, and a community of family and friends who loved and respected him and will miss him deeply. We will celebrate Mike and Vicki’s life with a worship service at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 5, at First Baptist Church, 408 College Street, Clinton, NC, with visitation immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
