James Elwood Sutton

Mr. James Elwood Sutton, 80, of Roseboro, went to his heavenly home on Monday, January 9, 2017.

Born in 1936 in Wayne County, Mr. Sutton was the son of the late Edgar and Elizabeth Whitfield Sutton.  Mr. Sutton was a graduate of Piney Grove School. He was also a member of the National Guard for many years. He worked at Lundy Packing Company for 49 years.  He attended Brown Baptist Church.  He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he enjoyed working in his garden and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by; daughter, Elizabeth Ray and her husband, Ricky, of Roseboro; three granddaughters: Heather Stewart Anderson and her husband, Alex, of Clinton; Michelle Lassiter Penczak and her husband, Sean, of Hawaii; and Chelsea Sutton Corbett and husband, Cecil, of Greenville; three grandsons: Ricky Ray Jr. and wife, Erin, of Key West, Florida; Jeremy Sutton and wife, Miranda, of Elizabeth City; and Jonathan Sutton of Garland; a special friend: Marie Pope and her family of Clinton; eleven great grandchildren: Anna Kate Anderson , Jamie Claire Anderson, Cole Everett, Hailey Sutton, Shiloh Corbett, Kaleb Corbett, Sawyer Penczak, Eli Ray, Reid Hall, Karson Hall, and Kylie Ann Hall.  His sister: Faye O’Brien and husband, Don, of Virginia

He was welcomed into heaven by his wife, Edna Joy Sutton; sister: Yvonne Reese; son: Woody Sutton; and grandson, Jamie Stewart.

The visitation will be January, Friday 13 at Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 14, at Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton with Pastor Casey Welker and Reverend James Croom officiating.  Burial will follow at Clinton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Brown Baptist Church 124 Boykin Drive, Clinton.
