George Leonard Darden

George Leonard Darden, born October 14, 1932, of 1090 Panhandle Road, Faison, North Carolina passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.  He was the son of the late Relmon Darden and Annie Ruth Thornton Darden. 

He is survived by his wife Lucille Darden of the home and daughter Donna Darden of New York City, New York as well as his two sons in law, George L. Medina of New York City, New York and Charles H. Spangler of Shallotte, North Carolina.  George also leaves to cherish his memory, Lucille’s siblings, his cousins, and his many cherished friends and neighbors. 

He graduated from Halls High School and attended Pineland College, later transferring to Atlantic Christian College.  George was a retired farmer who loved the beautiful country life.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

George was a lifelong member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.  He loved church and was a long term member of the Maturing in Christ Sunday School Class. Every Sunday, one could find George settled comfortably in his favorite chair listening to his wife, Lucille, and other excellent teachers teach the class. 

Over the years, George was privileged to have several pastors with whom he had very close relationships.  They all became a special part of his spiritual walk with Christ. 

Funeral services will be conducted at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1818 North McCullen Road, Faison, North Carolina on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 3 p.m. and Dr. Richard Walker, Reverend Richard Weeks and Reverend McBride presiding.

Interment will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church and Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge of all Services.  Visitation will be at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and other times at the home.  Flowers are welcome and memorials can be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, at 1818 North McCullen Road, Faison, North Carolina28341.
