William Edward Pollock Obituary

William (Bill) Edward Pollock

January 13, 1945,  April 4, 2026

On April 4, 2026, a bright and sunny day, Bill left this world but we will always have great memories of Bill and the many good things that he did.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Charles William Pollock and Mary Susan Kennedy Pollock,  sister Mary Ellen Pollock, brother Roy Davis Pollock and sister Lisa Marlene  Mahaley. He is survived by his brothers, Charles Pollock (wife Elizabeth) and Harold Pollock (wife Sadie), his sisters, Linda Pollock and Jean Pollock  and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, his lifelong friends Willie and Cathy Jones and of course his church family.

Bill was born at home in Clinton,  NC on January 13, 1945 (He always said thirteen was his lucky number). He graduated from Clinton High School and attended East Carolina University. He loved sports and lettered in football and baseball in high school. In later life, Bill loved to go to Clinton High School and Union High School football games. For many years, he was part of the officiating team for Union home games and on at least one occasion, he refereed a Union High basketball game.

As many of you know, Bill was a gifted bowler and won numerous tournaments that included trophies and cash prizes. In the bowling community, he was well known for his bowling skills.  For 30 years or more, he and a small group annually traveled to Las Vegas. The group included his brother, Roy, Roy’s son, Charlie, and lifelong friend, Willie Jones to participate in a national amateur bowling tournament and to have fun.

Bill was a proud veteran. He served three tours in Southeast Asia including two “boots on the ground tours” during the Vietnam War. He volunteered to go to Vietnam so that his siblings did not have to go.   He paid dearly for his time on the ground in Vietnam. He later suffered several major diseases caused by his exposure to Agent Orange and probably died as a result of his exposure. Bill  achieved the rank of E5, “Buck Sergeant”. In his official war time service record, he was commended by one of his commanders for organizing and supervising a very successful intramural athletic program for the base.

Bill loved Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church and his church family and he will be interred in that church’s cemetery. He used to tell everyone that he wanted to be buried there so that he could hear Preacher Ray’s voice giving sermons and the music of the choir forever.

Bill also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He always loved to  give venison, fish, tomatoes, watermelons ,cantaloupes and the like to his family members and friends. Bill is greatly loved and will be missed by all.

His service will be held at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church (863 Boney Mill Road, Clinton) on Sunday, April 12 at 3:00. Visitation, also at Union Grove, will precede the service from 2:00 to 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a donation to Bill’s beloved Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
