William Lee Carr, 78, of Clinton passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.  Born in Clinton on April 4, 1944, Bill graduated from Clinton High School before attending N.C. State University.  He proceeded to obtain a Masters Degree at Miami University in Ohio and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for doctoral work.

MEMORIAL service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Rowan Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bill worked for Prestage Farms until his retirement in 2019, when he transitioned to farming full time.  He was a quiet, introspective soul who found joy in caring for his animals, catching up with his sister weekly, and visiting with his sons and their families as often as he could.  From the tiniest baby bird to the scruffiest dog, no animal would go uncared for on his watch.  He was a lifelong learner, and could be found perusing the latest issue of “Successful Farming” or studying an organic chemistry textbook at his kitchen table.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Alton A. Carr and Dorothy C. Carr.  He is survived by his sister, Lawanna Zimmerman (Ray) of New Jersey, his four sons and greatest accomplishments, Brian A. Carr (Georgianna) of Pittsboro, Gregory S. Carr (Alison) of Clinton, Benjamin L. Carr (Joanna) of Trenton, and Patrick E. Carr (Katie) of Germantown, Maryland, and seven grandchildren, Cooper, Bailey, Everett, Emerson, Waylon, Leo and Reli.  The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
