Thomas Michael "Mike" Bass

Thomas Michael "Mike" Bass, 79, of Clinton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

A memorial service with Masonic rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, with Rev. Chubby Reiber officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Steve Bass and Deleon Bass.

Mike was born on April 28, 1947, in Nash County, North Carolina, to the late Ernest Dagma Bass and Josephine Bissette Bass. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War before returning home to build a life centered on family, service, and hard work.

For many years, Mike farmed in Nash County, dedicating himself to the agricultural community he loved. He later served with distinction as a North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper, retiring in 2002 after a respected career in law enforcement. Mike was also a proud member of Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 98.

Retirement allowed Mike to enjoy the simple pleasures that meant the most to him, spending time with family and friends, lending a helping hand to local farmers, and serving members of his community whenever he could. He was known for his generosity, quiet strength, and willingness to help anyone in need. His life was a reflection of dedication, integrity, and selfless service.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jewel Cannady Bass, and his siblings, Donald Bass and Wendy Bass.

He is survived by his sons, Chris Bass (Nicole) and Ben Bass (Kerry); his stepson, Bobby Shatterly (Tamara); his grandchildren, Dillon Bass, Sterling Bass, Mallory Bass, Mary Logan Shatterly, and Anderson Shatterly; his sisters, Jo Ann Shelby (Mike) and Kathy Deans (Donnie); along with many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss him.

Mike will be remembered as a devoted father, proud grandfather, faithful friend, dedicated public servant, and hardworking farmer. His kindness, unwavering work ethic, and love for his family and community leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
