Thomas Alan Britt, 78, left this earth to return to his heavenly home on July 8th, 2024. TA was
born March 21st, 1946, to his father, Harry Shore Britt Jr., and mother, Katie Moore Britt. He
also had an older brother, Harry Shore Britt. All of these special people, along with his wife of
56 years - Brenda Balkcum Britt - preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and their husbands - Kim and Billy Lockamy of
Clinton, Jennifer and Ken Honeycutt of Clinton - and granddaughter - Courtney Houston of
Wilmington.
Mr. Britt was a native of Sampson County and enjoyed his second home at Topsail Beach
throughout his life. He fell in love with the coastal life while attending Miller Motte College of
Business in Wilmington as an adventurous young man.
After completing his courses, he then ventured back to Clinton, where he took over his father’s
business - B & J Billiards. He became inspired to transition this business into a restaurant that
was relocated to Morrissey Blvd. as TA’s Grill. His legacy of having the best burgers and
hotdogs in town was solidified through his tireless commitment to showing up, working hard,
and serving his community of friends and family to the best of his ability. Giving away his
“Special Eggnog” on Christmas Eve was one of his greatest joys, and fostered many
connections and memories over the years.
He also thrived in hosting his weekly “Round Table Meetings” at the Farm House with food,
friends, and many laughs. Solving the world’s problems was their specialty! Some of his
fondest memories were of boating and fishing with his friends. He especially enjoyed a trip to
the Oregon Inlet, where he and his buddies caught a Blue Marlin! With such joy and thrill, he
hung the fish in his home as a constant reminder of that exciting day.
TA was a pillar in our family of strength and dedication, with a “call it how you see it” attitude.
He instilled ideals of working tirelessly for what you want and standing for what you believe in -
while still having fun along the way! He was a Shriner and constant supporter of Shriner’s
Hospital for Children. Mr. Britt believed in taking care of his family and extending a helping
hand to those in need. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and camaraderie, with many special
connections made throughout life. His spirit will live on and continue to impact those of us left
behind.
A Celebration of Life Service, officiated by Rev. William Tew, will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday July
12th, 2024, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home. A time for visitation will precede from
2:00-3:00 pm. The family will receive friends after the service for a “TA Style” celebration at
Billy’s Barn - 3764 Keener Rd. Clinton, NC.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Yolanda Troublefield. Ms. Yolanda
provided excellent care for our beloved TA over the past year. She went above and beyond the
call of duty with her kind words, gestures, and uplifting spirit. We love you, Yolanda, and we
cannot express our sincerest appreciation enough. You have been a saving grace and a
constant light for all of us through this difficult time. TA always said what a sweetheart you are
and how blessed we have been to have you become a part of our family.
