Sandra Jernigan Pope, 81, died on June 6, 2026 at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living in Newton Grove.

Sandra was born in Sampson County.  She was the cherished daughter of the late Allison Britt Jernigan and Marvin Jernigan.  She is a 1963 graduate of Midway High School. She worked for many years as an administrate assistant for a local textile company and then as Benefits Coordinator for Mary Gran Nursing home for many more years. 

Sandra was predeceased by her beloved husband, Preston Pope; her daughter, Wendy Sinclair; her stepson, Terry Pope and her son-in-law, Charles Smith.  She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Sinclair and her husband, Scott Holderness; her stepdaughter, Tammy Smith and her adoring grandchildren: Terry Smith (Cherish), Amanda Underwood (Sam), Katherine Holderness and Elizabeth Holderness.  She is lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren: Maddison, Nelson, Dawson, Drake, Davis, Zoie and Hailey. 

Sandra’s life was a testament to her unwaveringly faith which was her guiding force. She lived a life of quiet strength, patience, and selfless love for her family, friends and community.  She was an avid reader, loved to do her own yard work and had a natural inclination to take care of others.

Sandra’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to friends who have kept Sandra in your prayers over the last few years.

The family also wishes to thank the staff and residents of Rolling Ridge Assisted Living for compassionate care and kindness and for being Sandra’s extended family. 

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Grandview Memorial Park, 2809 US-421, Clinton, NC with Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating.
