Ruby Simmons Obituary

Holly Springs,

Ruby Mae Simmons, 90, of 1808 Twin Lake Drive, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Western Wake Medical Center in Cary.

The funeral service will be held at 3 P.M., Sunday, July 8, 2018,  at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, with the Reverend Dr. Randy Simmons officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in the Old Holly Grove Church Cemetery.

Ruby was born and grew up in Dunn, NC and attended and graduated East Carolina Indian School.  Her first childhood joys were playing with her dog, Jabo, tending her flower garden and riding her bicycle all over the community.  After high school graduation, she married and moved to Clinton where she raised her family and became an excellent homemaker and cook.  Her family was the center of her life and she was the heart of the family.  Her cooking was a natural expression of her love, which extended to feeding birds and other wildlife.  A lifelong interest in learning resulted in many creative hobbies including reading, cooking, gardening and sewing.  Later in life, she further developed her creativity and artistry by teaching herself oil painting.  Additionally, Ruby was an early feminist and advocate for those in need – a truly compassionate person.  Her strong faith helped her endure the good times and bad with faith.  She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Ruby was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jack and Lillie Bell, mother Irene Bell, Aunt Lucille Bell and daughter Linda Simmons Dowless.  She is survived by daughter Gloria Norris and husband Lewis Norris, daughter Lillie Simmons and husband Richard Wood, daughter Sandra Simmons, grandson Chad Dowless, great granddaughter Paisley Tutterrow and her cat Precious Joy Simmons.
