Roy Glenn Cannady, 75 of 1182 Bass Lake Rd, Roseboro passed away at his home on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 31, 2025, at 4 PM, at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home with Rev. John Hobbs, officiating. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 3 PM to 4 PM at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at this home.
Roy was born in Sampson County on March 1, 1949, to the late Franklin and Ozelle Porter Cannady. He was preceded in death by a brother Leondis Cannady and 5 sisters, Hildred Brown, Edna Sinclair, Margaret Crumpler, Nell Honrine and Helen Barnes. Roy worked at Lundy’s Packing Company for 25 years and then worked for several years at Westpoint Stevens before retiring as a security guard from Smithfield Foods. He was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.
He was always content and happy doing things around the house. He enjoyed piddling outside, reading his newspapers and watching his sports. His family was always his top priority and he was always there for whatever was needed of him. Later in life, his new joy was becoming and being Papa to his grandson, Carlon. Everything involving Carlon made him light up. Roy prided himself on hard work, being dependable, and always being on time. He was a quiet man of few words, but he had a heart of gold. Roy will be forever loved and greatly missed by many.
Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jewel Hudson Cannady, a son, Nathan Scott Cannady and daughter, Kelly Jewel Cannady (Billy Jackson), grandson, Carlon Scott Cannady (Brittanie Powell) and great grandchildren, Sophia Grace Bradshaw and Oaklynn Claire Cannady, sister-in-law Claire Allen and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Ave. FL 17, Chicago IL 60601.
The family will receive friends other times at the home.
