Robert Waylon Mitchell, 68 of Eastover/ Roseboro was called to his heavenly home on Sunday December 25, 2022 with his loving wife Leslie by his side. Waylon was born November 19,1954 in Sampson County. He was the son of the late Bobby Frank Mitchell and Patricia Ann Crumpler Mitchell. He worked as an Independent Agent at Waylon Mitchell Enterprises Incorporated. He was a member of the UNC Alumni Association. He attended Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church as well as a member of Holy Innocent Catholic Church in New Jersey where Waylon and Leslie were married and lived at that time.
Waylon was a kind and gentle man who put his family first. On many occasions throughout his life Waylon would gladly go out of his way to help family, friends and others in need whether it be moral support or monetary support he would always extend a helping hand. His kindness was an attribute of his personality.
He is survived by his wife Leslie Anne Bownik Mitchell, daughter Nicole Victoria Mitchell Steen and husband Philip and grandson Owen. Brothers Douglas Mitchell and daughter Meredith, Larry Mitchell and children Tyler, Christian and Chandler and Tommy Mitchell and children Justin, Peyton and Madison, Brother-in-law James J. Bownik, Sister-in-Law Linda Marie Bownik Panasuk and husband Steve and children Kara and Brian and adopted son George Williams and many cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, December 30th at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton NC.
The funeral service will be held at 12 pm Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Roseboro NC, with Rev. John Hobbs and Rev. Dudley Neal officiating. Interment will follow in the church Cemetery.
