Robert L. Carroll, Jr., 78, of Vienna, Virginia passed away on August 20, 2023, from medical complications.
Robert was born on June 8th, 1945, to Robert L. Carroll, Sr. and Margaret Matthews in Turkey, North Carolina. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1963, he went on to study Electrical Engineering at N.C. State University. Robert obtained a Master of Philosophy Degree at Yale University and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Connecticut.
While at Yale University, he met Carol Weinstock, and they wed in 1972. Robert and Carol moved to Northern Virginia when he became a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he worked for 39 years. They went on to have three children: Blakely, Cayley and Meyra.
Robert was a passionate Baritone Saxophone player and could often be found performing with many community bands and saxophone quartets in the Northern Virginia area. He was an avid collector of 18th and 19th century clocks, fountain pens, cacti and developed a love for cats and fragrances. He kept southern foods close to his heart, especially fried fish, hush puppies and barbeque.
Anyone who knew Robert knew that he took enormous pride in his family. They meant more to him than anything. Robert had unending love for his wife, children and grandchildren, and always made every effort to support them in any way he could.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol; three daughters: Blakely, Cayley and Meyra; and two grandsons: Drew and Connor.
