Mr. Rex Oscar Matthis, 41, of 6035 Taylors Bridge Hwy. Clinton, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Transitions Hospice Care in Raleigh.

A private Graveside service will be held, Tuesday, March 16, at The Matthis Family Cemetery on Turkey Hwy. (Hwy. 24) Clinton, with the Rev. Mike Shook officiating.

Rex, born in Sampson County, was the son of Oscar Matthis and Arlene Williamson Matthis. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in College and was a former Welding Instructor at Sampson Community College.

Rex is survived by: his parents, Oscar and Arlene Williamson Matthis; a brother Wrenn Matthis and wife Leslie; nephews and niece; Timothy Hyde and wife Allyson, Peyton Matthis, and Haley Matthis; great-niece, Raelyn Hyde and his Uncle and Aunts; Abram Matthis and wife Lucille and Sudie Matthis.

Oscar and Arlene, Margaret and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of your son, We never had the privilege of meeting him but if he was anything like his mother and father, we are sure he was a great man and will be greatly missed.  Sorry to hear of your loss.  Praying for you both.
