Raynard “Ray” John Self, 73, of 415 Naylor School Rd. passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 surrounded by his family at home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 29th at Central Baptist Church 6050 Plainview Hwy. Dunn, NC with Pastor Cameron Cloud and Pastor Tom Wagner officiating. Interment will follow the service in Harnett Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10-11:00 A.M. one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

Ray, born in Roanoke County, Va. was the son of the late Charles Guy Self and Dorothy Peters Self and spent a lifetime career devoted to law enforcement.  Ray retired from the Wake County Sheriff’s Department obtaining the rank of Major.  His career included serving as a Police Officer and ALE Agent. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Dunn and served as head of security for many years.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Julean Matthews Self, daughters: Tammy Lynn Self and Ginger Self Taylor and husband Matthew Robert Taylor; grandchildren: Kayla Rene Self (Garry) Jacqueline Grace Taylor, Alexandria Faith Taylor and Joshua Matthew Taylor; great-grandchildren: Cayden and RaeLynn Manson, brother: Maynard Guy Self and Robert Lee Self.
