Owen "Cliff" Williford Obituary

Clinton,

Owen Clifford “Cliff” Williford, 84, of 91 Gordon Road, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He went to be with Jesus the day before his 85th birthday.

A graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, December 30th, at Clinton City Cemetery (103 Raiford St., Clinton, NC)  with Rev. Dwight Dunning officiating.  There will be a walk-through viewing from 10 AM – 1 PM Wednesday, December 30th at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Cliff, born December 28, 1935 in Sampson County, was the son of the late Owen Martin Williford and Mertie Jackson Williford. He was the owner of ECNO Oil, Inc. and J. W. Transport, Inc. Cliff was a Veteran of the US Army and a member of Clinton Community Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, William Williford, Joe Williford, Frank Williford, Dora Pla and Edna Matthews.

Cliff loved his family dearly. He loved so much and was loved just as much. He was a remarkable provider for his family and worked very hard until he could no longer.  He was active in the community and his church. He was a former member of Lion’s Club and Antique Automobile Club of America and was an extra in several movies using one of his antique cars. He competed in barrel racing and had a fond love of his horse Bill Jenkins. He was a smart business man with a large personality and was strong in his convictions. One often knew where they stood with him.  He had a full personality, a contagious laugh and a big heart to help people.  He was tough and resilient.  Cliff very much loved the beach, boating, fishing, spending time in his building tinkering and family gatherings. He was always prepared to get his hands dirty.  He was always ready to go, loved car rides and in his latter years was always wanting his shoes to be put on and usually to go get a bite to eat.

The family would like to thank 3HC for the care they provided during the last few years, especially Mrs. Linda Wells. She will forever hold a special place in the family’s heart.

Survivors include; wife of 58 years, Alice  Lee Williford; children, Lee Ann Furmidge of Clinton, Jason Williford and wife Kristi of Clinton, and Mary Alice Williford of Raleigh and fiance William DeMent; grandchildren, Matthew Furmidge, Olivia Williford and Ava Williford, all of Clinton ; granddog, Coco; brother, James Larry Williford of Spiveys Corner; sisters, Ruth Elaine Fowler and husband Charlie of Knightdale, Mary Ann Ritenour and husband Chuck of Derry, PA, and Linda Pearl Chesnutt and husband Richard of Clinton; sister-in-laws, Ann Williford of Autryville and Elaine Williford of Garner.
