Michael E. Matthews, 57

CHESNEE, SC ­– Michael Edward Matthews, 57, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. He was the son of the late Mitchell and Gladys Matthews of Turkey, N.C.

An avid concert-goer and Jimmy Buffet fan, Mike, as he was known by his friends and family, was a long-time long-distance truck driver who loved the open road and traveling with the love of his life, wife AnnMarie Matthews and his fur baby Daisy.

For the past five years, he had been a loyal employee of VSS Transportation, a place he loved and appreciated.

Michael was a member of Rowan Baptist Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife AnnMarie Matthews of the home; his three children, who he loved with all his heart, Samantha Matthews, Corey Matthews and Morgan Matthews, all of Fayetteville, N.C.;  two stepchildren, who he thought of as his own, Melissa Cates of Texas and Brian Simpson of Texas; a sister, Sherry Matthews of Clinton; and the six grandchildren who were his pride and joy,  Hunter, Georgia, Shelby, William, Savannah and Riley.
