Mary Elizabeth Powell Thornton, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 23. 2022 at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 27th at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home with Pastor Ken White and Pastor Jonathan Stafford officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinton City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
Mary, who was born September 6, 1932 in Johnston County, was the daughter of the late Robert Phillip Powell and Ada Elizabeth Powell. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Matthews Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Lea Thornton and siblings Johnny Powell and Caroline Shiers.
Survivors include: children, Elizabeth Ann Thornton (fiancé Wade), Linda Faye Wengert (John), Lois Thornton Hope (Sam), and Robert Allen Thornton (Alice Faye); brother, Billy Powell; sister, Lynn Britt; grandchildren, Patricia Ann Longino (Matt), Nina Lee Thoman (Kevin), Chris Thornton (Amy), Amanda Burch, Susan Smith, and Robert Thornton, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kelly Longino, Addy Longino, Zack Thoman, Nate Thoman, Haiden Smith, Preston Hall, Caleb Thornton, and special angel Haley Burch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
