Dr. Larry E. Warren, 81, of Clinton, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at The Springs of Ballentine in Fuquay Varina.
Dr. Warren was born on April 24, 1944, in Clinton, to the late Estel M Warren and Sallie Mary Sutton Warren. He was a member of the Elija Warren family. Dr. Warren was 3rd in his class when he graduated from Clinton High School in 1962 and then he went to North Carolina State University where he graduated with honors in 1966. He earned a PHD in inorganic chemistry from U.N.C. Chapel Hill and was an author of four scientific publications. He was a 1974 graduate of the U.N.C. School of Medicine and was a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Warren spent most of his 20 years of medical practice in the care of medically indigent and minority patients. He was a member of the staff at Wake Medical Center. Dr. Warren was a 2000 graduate of the U.N.C. School of Law and a member of the North Carolina State Law Bar. He practiced elder law in Raleigh. Larry retired to Sampson County in the late 1990’s to the family farm of his maternal ancestors. This is when he concentrated on farm life, beginning with the state program of long leaf pines; also grafting, planting grapevines, fruit trees and twenty pecan trees.
While working in Raleigh, Larry attended the First Baptist Church. After returning to Clinton, he attended the Rowan Baptist Church where he used the talent he had been gifted, playing the guitar, banjo and mandolin.
Larry traveled around Europe, to Alaska taking excellent photographs, and was a bluegrass music lover, but loved symphony music also. Larry was an avid biker and went to several places in the world for these trips. He was a member of the Sampson County River Club, the Sampson County Historical Society and the N C State Alumni Association.
As part of his estate plans, a four- year full tuition and fees scholarship will be provided yearly through an endowment of the North Carolina State University Foundation to one or more graduates of Clinton High School to attend North Carolina State University. For the past several years Larry has given a $10,000 scholarship to a graduate of Clinton High School that will attend North Carolina State University.
Larry leaves behind many cousins: Mary Jorgenson, Rob Jorgenson of Arizona, Daphane Murphy and many other cousins. He also leaves behind his special friend of 18 years, Mary Elizabeth Thornton, and her son, Raymond McNemar & family.
Larry had a long love of learning, history, traveling, nature and conservation. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Graveside services for Dr. Warren will be Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the Clinton City Cemetery, 103 Raeford Rd. Clinton NC. Visitation will be at Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home, 118 Fayetteville St. Clinton, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 9:00AM – 10:45 AM.
