Larry W. Burgette Obituary

Godwin, NC – Larry Wilson Burgette, 76, passed away on December 23, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.

He was born in Erwin, NC to the late Stephen Love and Ella Branch Burgette.  He was preceded in death by daughter B. Christal Burgette Eason.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years Dixie McLamb Burgette of the home; a daughter Melissa Burgette Burton and son-in-law Jeff Burton of Turkey, NC; eight grandchildren Dillon Eason, Sierra Jones, Nicholas Burton, Kalyn Burton, Abby Burton, Ashlyn Burton, Jeffery Burton, Jr. and Carsen Snell; and sisters Mary Catherine Gregory and Hilda Faye Carter.

He proudly retired as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army and then later from Cape Fear Valley Hospital.  He loved working in his yard, keeping the grass mowed in the summer and the leaves raked in the fall.  He also enjoyed tinkering around on old cars in his spare time.  Sunday mornings would find him at South River Community Church in Wade singing in the choir, and Sunday afternoons would find him at home in front of the TV watching NASCAR. He loved his God and his family above all else in his life.

 A celebration of his life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 28th at Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton with Larry Eason officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton.  Visitation will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 12-1 pm.
