Junior “J. C.” Clarence Hughes, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Duplin-Vidant Hospital.
Funeral service will be at 2 PM, Monday, January 15th at Rowan Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Register and Rev. Clay Carter officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the fellowship hall.
J. C., born March 29, 1939 in Sampson County, was the son of the late Clarence Hughes and Annie Lou Bass Hughes. He was a veteran of the US Airforce and worked as a supervisor with Barcalounger furniture assembly. He was a member of Rowan Baptist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include; wife, Jean Matthews Hughes; children, Cindy Johnson (Chuck), Greg Hughes (Shelia), and Lisa Cannon (Allen); grandchildren, Haley Lanier (Jerry), Cody Hughes, Taylor Johnson, Madison Cannon, Riley Cannon, Regan Cannon, and Ty Sauls; great-grandson, Thomas Lanier; and several nieces and nephews.
