Clinton,
Julia Ellen Cashwell Pope, 99, passed away peacefully at Mary Gran Nursing Center on November 27, 2022. Born on October 29, 1923, Julia was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, and great-great aunt. She married Prentice Pope in 1951 and was happily married for 49 years until his death in 2000. For many years, Julia worked at Hamilton Beach in Clinton, NC where she retired. Julia was always smiling and happy especially when she was spending time with family and friends. Not having children of her own, Julia loved spending time with her many nieces and nephews. She loved going to everything her nieces and nephews were involved in such as ballgames, concerts, and pageants. Her family always knew she would be on the front row or at least as close as she could get to cheer on her family. Going to family reunions and any other family gatherings was special to Julia. She was always making plans to go shopping or planning a beach trip with her sisters. The one thing she looked forward to every morning was going to Rooster Lewis’ Barbecue to sit at her special table, drink coffee and enjoy socializing with everyone that passed through the doors. She also had a special relationship with the employees there who pampered her and made her feel special. Julia was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jess and Leona Cashwell, her husband Prentice Pope, sister Helen McLamb and husband Kenneth, brother James Cashwell and wife Alma, brother Bobby Cashwell and wife Margaret, sister Hilda Tunstall and husband Shelton, and sister Geraldine Butler. Remaining to cherish her memories are her sister Kay Basinger and husband Reid and her many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 3rd from 1:00 to 1:45 pm. at Keener Methodist Church, 6415 Keener Road, Clinton, N.C. Services to celebrate her life will follow at the church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Leanne Calhoun officiating. Following the funeral, Julia will be laid to rest at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery, 2809 US-421, Clinton, N.C.
