Joyce Louise Porter Strickland Adams, 88, of 811 S Wilmington Ave., passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at her home.

Joyce was the daughter of the late Samuel Minson Porter and Eloise Crumpler Porter.  She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.  She was a friend to many not having ever met a stranger.  She was a homemaker and retired from Hamilton Beach and Morganite.  Joyce volunteered at Betsy Johnson Hospital where she made numerous friends.  She was president of the Volunteer Auxiliary for four years. Her church was her family and she served as a Sunday School teacher at Hickory Grove Baptist Church and joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church in 1950.  She received her GED at 60 years old.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Willard Strickland who she married February 1, 1950 and Durwood Adams, who she married in April 1981; daughter, Susan Louise Strickland Jackson; son-in-law Thomas Glenn Archbell “Tommy”; sister Jo Ann Porter Powell Wood and her husband Ira W. Powell; brothers, Bennie Porter, Sammie Porter and wife Josephine, Mack Porter and wife Anita; brother-in-law, Carroll Sutton. 

Joyce is survived by; daughter, Joyce Gail Strickland Archbell; son-in-law, Ricky A. Jackson Sr. and wife Diane; stepchildren, Wayne Adams and wife Cynthia, Phil Adams and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Ricky A. Jackson, Jr., Jason G. Archbell, Crystal Gail Archbell Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Logan Savannah Jackson, Stella Gail Sullivan; step-grandchildren, Jason Adams, Jonathan Adams and wife Becky, Beth Adams, Nathan Adams, Amanda Adams Sholl; step-great grandchildren, Parker Adams, Luke Adams, Drew Adams, Lila Scholl, James Scholl; sisters, Carolyn Porter Naylor and husband James,  and Patricia Porter Sutton; brother-in-law, Alton B. Wood; and sister-in-law, Helen Porter.

Funeral will be held at 3 PM, Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Creech officiating.  Interment will follow in the Strickland Family Cemetery on Rabbit Street, Clinton, NC.  The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM – 3 PM, just before the service at the church.
