Joyce Anne Smith Pope, 88, of 199 Beaver Road, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 at her home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, December 18th at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremey Hairr officiating.  Interment will follow in the Clinton City Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church.

Joyce, born September 22, 1934 in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Bernice Smith and Neta King Smith.  She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Alton Edward Pope, and sons Alton “Buddy” Howard Pope and Charles Edward Pope.

Survivors include: daughter, Sylvia Hales and husband Ray; daughter-in-law, Kay Pope; grandchildren, Kevin Pope, Kimberly Pope, Randy Hales, Allen Hales, Brian Hales, Connie Williams and Chris Pope; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Earl Smith (Christine), Dean Bland (Everrette) and Carolyn West.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 3790 Faison Hwy., Clinton, NC  28328.
