Mr. Joseph (“Joe”) Neil Carter, Sr., 75, of Cabbage Patch Road, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Duke University Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday May 23, 2024 with Rev. Ray Carter officiating at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.
Joe Carter, of Sampson County, was the son of the late Mr. Wilbert B. Carter, Sr. and Mrs. Estelle Saunders Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Mrs. Cynthia (“Cindy”) Odom Carter.
Joe Carter was an avid dancer who enjoyed the dances at the Moose Club and wanted everyone to share in his joy. He was a member of the Sampson County Shag Club (Sam. Co. Shag Club). Joe Carter was one of the founding members of the Hamtown Greens Golf Club where he relished the comradery of his family and friends. He was a skilled tradesman with over 60 years of experience that frequently visited his close friends Mr. Craig Hobbs and Mr. Jerry Tart of Complete Mechanical of Clinton to share his knowledge with employees and customers.
Mr. Carter is survived by his son, Mr. Joseph Neil Carter, Jr.; daughter, Ms. Dana Melissa Carter; step-daughter that he loved as his own, Mrs. Krisha Lyn Emanuel; six grandchildren, Alexander Blake Emanuel, Julius Devon Gay, Pvt. Tyler Paxton Emanuel, Emylie Neihl Muth, Joseph Neil Carter III, and Noah Riley Emanuel; two brothers Ret. Sgt. Maj. Wilbert B. (“Buddy”) Carter, Jr. and Mr. Willie T. Carter of Clinton; and five sisters Mrs. Charlotte Elston and Mrs. Lettie Fields of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Mrs. Elizabeth (“Tootsie”) Watts, Mrs. Christine Matthews, and Mrs. Karen Salyer of Clinton. Joe and his brother-in-law Mr. Kenneth Fields were the closest of friends and considered themselves brothers. Joe Carter dearly loved his numerous nieces and nephews of both blood and marriage.
