John Marion “J. M.” Owens, 82, of 97 Planters Walk, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, December 28th at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Ameen officiating.  Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Garden.  The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at the church and at other times at the home.

John was born October 6, 1940 in Sampson County and was the son of the late Franklin J. Owens and Annie Marie Faircloth Owens.  He was an avid gardener and bee keeper.  He enjoyed spending his spare time in nature birdwatching, feeding native wildlife and fishing at the sea side.  He participated in several running clubs and was an avid runner.  He was an upholster for over 60 years and was well known for his precise details and craftmanship across eastern NC.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and entertaining at his home.  “Pa” will be greatly missed.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Lynwood Owens and Edward Owens.  John was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include; wife of 59 years, Jo Ann Avery Owens; children, Brook Owens and Frankie Owens and wife Donna; grandchildren, Avery Owens and husband David Knowles; and great-grandchildren, Piper MacKenna Owens and Zander Grey Owens.
