JOHN JOSEPH STILES
John Joseph “Jack” Stiles, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2023, at The Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC.
Jack was born September 19, 1930, to Harry and Pauline Stiles in Ottumwa, Iowa. Beginning in his middle school years, he became an active member of the ROTC training program. Following graduation from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, Jack enlisted as an officer in the US Army and he was stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado during the Korean War. After his years in the army, he settled in Clinton, North Carolina to be near his parents when Harry Stiles was Superintendent of the Lundy’s plant. Jack went on to own and operate several businesses in North Carolina including Stiles Manufacturing, which produced tobacco loopers and decorative wrought iron. After the death of his father, Jack would care for his mother until her death in 1995. In his later years, you would often see Jack working in and around his yard, which he enjoyed very much.
He is survived by his nephews Charles William Stiles II, Racine, WI, John W. and Kelley Stiles, Shorewood, IL, Jeffrey G. Stiles, Sandwich, IL and nieces Victoria Sharkey, Jacksonville, FL and Mary Elizabeth Lara, Naperville, IL, and many great nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles William “Bill” Stiles, niece Pamela Kirschbaum and nephews Stephen G. Stiles and Joseph G. Stiles.
Funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 104 E John Street, Clinton, NC, with Father Joseph Dionne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the funeral mass in the Clinton City Cemetery.
