James "Chubby" Locklear Obituary

James Douglas Locklear "Chubby" of Clinton was born to the late Jessie James Locklear and Margie Locklear on Tuesday, January 5, 1943 in Robeson County and was born into eternity on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh completing his journey of 77 years.

In addition to his parents Mr. Locklear was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Locklear one infant child and one brother Dannie Locklear. He attended New Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton NC.

 

James grew up farming with his family in Robeson County, at a young age, he moved to Clinton N.C. and began working at Lundy Packing Company (now Smithfield Packing, Clinton NC). After retiring with over 30 years of service, he returned to his roots: the love of tending the soil, hunting, fishing, and raising animals. He was always blessed to have more than enough to share with family and friends.


He is survived by five sons: Laten Ross Jones of Red Springs, Kit Locklear of Clinton, James Jr. Locklear of Myrtle Beach, Jason Locklear of Shallotte, and Dean Smiling of Goldsboro; four sisters, Lyndola Locklear, Theresa Locklear, Patsy Locklear, Mary Alice Locklear of Maxton,; two brothers, Harvey Locklear of Fayetteville, Rocky Locklear, all of Shannon seven grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.


Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Rennert, Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.


Visitation for the family and friends of Clinton will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Crumpler - Honeycutt Funeral Home 118 Fayetteville St, Clinton, NC 28328.

Visitation for the family and friends for Shannon will be held from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 4,2020 at Zion Hill Baptist Church 100 Church Street, Shannon NC.

Service was entrusted to Boles Funeral Home in Red Springs.
