Irene Gainey Darden, 94, of 504 Underwood St., passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at her home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ferrell Miller and Rev. Robert Beasley officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral service at the church and at other times at the home.

Irene, born June 12, 1928 in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Marshall Avery Gainey and Mary Pope Gainey.  She was a homemaker and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Hester Darden and eleven brothers and six sisters.

Survivors include; children, Ann D. O’Donnell of Florence, SC, Debbie D. Eaves (Steve) of Clayton, Dwight Darden (LaRue) of Clinton, Victor Darden (Glenda) of Newton Grove, NC, and Vickie D. Giddens (Carroll) of Newton Grove; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
