Helen Gray (Fann) Herring Obituary

Mrs. Helen Herring, 88 of Five Bridge Road passed away peacefully and entered the presence of her Lord on Friday, August 19, 2022 surrounded by her family who dearly loved her.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 21st at Piney Green Missionary Baptist Church from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM followed by the service at 3 PM, with Reverend Donald Keith Carter officiating.

Mrs. Herring was born on January 3, 1934 in Sampson County to the late Seavy F. Fann and Dixie C. Fann. She attended Salemburg Schools and went on to further her education at Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh.  She retired from Southern Bank in Salemburg, after working as a loan officer in the banking business, for over 30 years.  She was blessed to have met and work with many valuable customers and friends.  She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.  She loved her church family, served her Lord as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, WMU member, and various other duties for many years. She was a great cook and enjoyed baking delicious desserts. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was a very supportive wife to her husband throughout their farming career.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Devone Herring, who she always called her “sweetheart” of 55 years,  and her brother Richard H. Fann.

She is survived by her son, Michael Lee Herring (Gail), Shelia Herring Moore (Bob); five grandchildren Bradley D. Herring (Barbara), Ryan L. Herring (Paulette), Jana L. Pope (James), Hannah Burke, and Marissa Burke; six great grandchildren Casen Herring, Logan Herring, Aubrey Herring, Ansley Herring, Luke Pope, and Jase Pope; sisters Mildred Quick (Edwin), Vondia Farthing, and sister-in-law Louise Fann-Hemmingway (John).

The family will receive family and friends in the home of Mike and Gail Herring on Five Bridge Road Clinton.

Helen’s family would like to express their gratitude to all staff at Rolling Ridge Assisted Living Facility for the excellent care provided to their mother and loved one during her stay.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcome and can be mailed to Piney Green Missionary Baptist Church, 6040 High House Road, Salemburg NC 28385.
