Harold Roy Nichols Obituary

Harold Roy Nichols, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Clinton on Thursday, August 7, 2025.

Born on March 9, 1943, in the Bell Arthur community of Pitt County, Harold was the son of the late Charles V. and Gladys Haynes Nichols. A lifelong educator, he dedicated more than 30 years to North Carolina’s public school system, serving as a teacher, guidance counselor, and principal. Harold was a passionate advocate for student success both inside and outside the classroom, supporting clubs and athletics, raising scholarship funds, mentoring, and helping guide students toward meaningful paths after graduation.

Upon retirement, Harold embraced the simple life on the farm in Clinton and cherished time spent with his family. He also found joy in photography and had a lifelong love of train travel.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Linda Jo Nichols; his sister, Margie Lou Nichols of Greenville; his sisters-in-law, Jane Andrews and Della Holland; his brother-in-law, Bruce Andrews (wife Judy); and Tommy Sanders, a former student whom he cared for as a son. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his siblings: Jimmy Nichols, Betty Jane Nichols, and Charles Ray Nichols (wife Janice).

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 10, at 3:00 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church in Clinton with interment to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made online to the Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh.
