Clinton, NC
Evelyn Kornegay passed away on May 28, 2021 with family at her side, at Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro, NC after a long struggle with lung (nonsmoking) and heart disease.
Our straight talking and frugal mother was born during the Great Depression in the Cumberland Gap area of Tennessee. She married Everette and they moved with his US Coast Guard assignments all over the northern parts of the US where their sons, Tim, Mike, and Jeff were born. After Dad’s retirement from the US Coast Guard we moved to Clinton, North Carolina.
Mom worked extremely hard in several roles (including healthcare taking care of others) throughout her life and tirelessly at home to take care of her family. A selfless person, our Mom was known to be one of the hardest working people around and did so until the last few years when her health frustratingly prevented her from doing so. In her mind, to do less would have been “shameful”. She was exceptionally feisty in her ways and loved working in her yard, cooking, cleaning, and worrying about her family. Mom was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 45 years and missed being able to attend church services in the last few years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Everette), and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sons, Tim (Judy) of Greensboro, Mike of Clinton, and Jeff (Wendy) of Charlotte (their kids/grandkids) and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be private. Arrangements are by Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home.
