Ernie Tyndall, Jr. was born In Clinton, NC on March 10, 1926 to the late Ina Mae Carr Tyndall and Ernie Tyndall, Sr.

Ernie served in the US Army, fighting on the front lines in Korea.  Later, in 1952, he was one of over 7,000 troops who participated in Operation Tumbler-Snapper, the atomic bomb tests in Nevada.  Ernie married Melba Dean King on March 12, 1952.  They lived in Texas near Fort Hood.  After Ernie was discharged from the army they moved to the Robert King family farm in Clinton, NC.  In addition to farming, Ernie worked as an automobile mechanic, a home construction worker, and most recently manufacturing church furniture at Kivett’s in Clinton.  He was a long-time member/deacon at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Ernie had a passion for music.  He loved his guitar and singing with The Carolina Ramblers on a weekly radio show in Clinton.

Ernie and Melba enjoyed their granddaughters Melissa and Kim’s visits to the farm.  Ernie could often be seen pulling them in the red wagon or taking them for rides on the tractor.  In recent years the family, including great-granddaughter Kaitlyn, enjoyed picking blueberries.

Ernie loved dogs and could never turn away a stray that appeared on the farm.  He had a particular fondness for dalmatians.  Some of his favorite dogs are buried in his pet cemetery near the family house.

Ernie was predeceased by his wife Melba as well as his two brothers, a sister and a sister-in-law:  JW, Walt, Elma Rae Hollingsworth, and Mildred King.

Ernie is survived by a daughter Evette Bloomquist and her husband David of Woodstock, GA, two grandchildren: Melissa Coutts and her husband Jon of Kintnersville, PA, and Kimberly Neely and her husband John of Atlanta, GA, great-grandchild Kaitlyn Neely, sister Melba Hollingsworth of Harrisburg, NC.

The family would especially like to thank his caregivers who have worked long hours allowing him to stay at home on the farm:  Lucille, Mary, Dana, Pam, and Pat.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Ernie’s memory to the Sampson County Veterans Council, 120 County Complex Road, Clinton, NC  28328.
