Alphonzia Barber,Jr

 

Alphonzia “Duke” Barber, Jr ,72, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on October 17, 2024. Before retiring, Duke spent many years working as a carpenter and managing a horse farm. He was a lifelong member of Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church in Clinton. Duke was married to the love of his life, Lib, for 46 wonderful years. 

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, October 20th at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Jeremy Hairr officiating.  Interment will follow in the Barber Family Cemetery on Pine Ridge Road.  The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Barber; his parents, Alphonzia and Sue Barber; his sister, Linda Pope; and his brother, Wilbert Barber.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Ezzell ( Marshall) and Tracy Oates (Patrick); grandchildren, Jake Ezzell, Finn Ezzell, Robert Duke Oates, and River Oates; his brother Jimmy Barber ( Loyce), brother Dwight Barber (Cynthia), sister Julie Autry (Michael), brother Charles Barber (Teresa) , sister in law Lynn Daniels and many loved nephews and nieces. 

 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NC Baptist on Mission Disaster Relief efforts in Western NC. Baptists on Mission. Checks may be made payable to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 3790 Faison Hwy. Clinton, NC  28328 with the memo line stating Western NC Disaster Relief.
