Dorothy “Dottie” Marie Nunnery Smith, 79, of 1719 Mitchell Loop Rd., Roseboro, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, just two weeks after the passing of her beloved husband, Stanley Sylvester Smith. Their nearly 60 years of marriage were marked by unwavering love, partnership, and devotion to their family.

Dottie was born on September 6, 1945, in Sampson County, North Carolina, to the late Robert Elon Nunnery, Sr. and Dorothy Marie Sinclair Nunnery. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose warmth and strength touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her two daughters: Kimberly Smith Usher (and husband Sam) of Clinton, and Kelly Miller of Roseboro. Dottie was a devoted grandmother to Allison Usher Long (and husband Bryan), Megan Usher Pierce (and husband Colt), Blake Miller, and Blair Miller. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Brycen Pierce, Emmalyn Pierce, Rexi Marie Long, Trey Long, and Ella Pierce.

She is also survived by her brothers Bobby Nunnery of Fayetteville and Mack Nunnery of Roseboro; and her sister Belva Peterson of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson Spencer Bryce Usher; her brothers J.T. Nunnery and Dale Nunnery; and her sister Gail Nunnery Balkcum.

Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker who poured her heart into her family and home. She had a deep passion for genealogy and spent countless hours researching and preserving family history, a gift that will continue to bless generations to come.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Sunrise Cemetery in Salemburg, NC. The service will be officiated by Reverend Ralph Carter.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the hospice team from Gentiva for their compassionate care—especially Amanda, Jenise, Mikki, Katlyn, and Chaplain Chris. A special thank you is also extended to Kelly and Kim for their loving care and devotion throughout Dottie’s final days.

Dottie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her deep love for her family, and her quiet passion for preserving the past.

The family will receive friends and loved ones at the home.
