Leland,
Cynthia Kathleen Wheeler Hines, age 67, passed away from early onset Alzheimer’s disease at Bluefields Memory Care in Leland, North Carolina on July 3, 2025.
Cynthia was born on October 22, 1957, to Mary Ann and Ken Wheeler in Woodstock, New York. Growing up, she lived in a few different states as her father was transferred often for work. Cynthia graduated from Mitchell High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1975. She moved to Raleigh, NC in 1978, where she met Ronald. They were married in 1984. Cynthia retired from Honeywell as a tech writer in 2019 and they moved to Leland to enjoy retirement in 2020.
Cynthia enjoyed landscaping a beautiful yard. She absolutely delighted (her laughter with them was pure joy) in her nieces and those nieces adored her, as her great niece and great nephews did. As the best “Aunt Cyntheny” (as she was affectionately called) - she kept a famous written “Fun To Do” list for visits from those nieces and nephews that really got used. Cynthia was the best daughter, sister, aunt and wife and will be missed dearly. She also took exceptional care of Graci, a miniature schnauzer, for her mother, and Graci’s ashes will be buried with Cynthia.
Preceding her in death was her father, Kenneth James Wheeler, grandparents Angeline Fox and Vincent Meloy and Charlotte and Frank Wheeler.
Those who miss her dearly are her husband of 41 years, Ronald Worth Hines of Leland, NC; mother, Mary Ann Meloy Wheeler, Lincoln NE-formerly of North Carolina; sister, Frances Wheeler Schmid (Dan) of Dwight, NE, brother Thomas Wheeler (Becky) of Palm Harbor, FL; nieces Kathryn Schmid Bowers (Nate) and Suzanne Schmid Faeh (Ryan) and her great nephews and great niece - Noah, Connor and Josephine Faeh and Ethan and Samuel Bowers all of Nebraska. Also, mourning Cynthia, are many cousins (especially Patty Hoth) and many friends.
Special thanks to the team at Bluefields Memory Care, Gentiva Hospice, Melanie Olkowski, and cousins Jamie Sprinkle and Debbie Duncan for the great care she received during her illness.
A service and internment of her ashes will be held on August 9th, 2025, at 11:00 at the Trinity Methodist Church, 1690 Trinity Church Rd, Magnolia, NC, 28453
