Colessie C. Young, 91, of 3722 Cain Court, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at Davis Health and Wellness at Cambridge in Wilmington, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M., Thursday, April 19, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Ken Simmons and Reverend Terry Cummings officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service at New Bethel Baptist Church.  Interment will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery.

Colessie, born in 1926 in Wayne County, was the daughter of the late John Wesley Carter and Atha Ida Strickland Carter.  She was a school teacher and a

member of New Bethel Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by; husband, Edgar Young; step-son, Doug Young; twin sister, Bessie Brewington; sister, Mabel Paprocki; brothers, Matthew “M. T.” Carter and Richard Carter.  

Survivors include; brother, Dwight Carter, of Ft. Washington, MD;  sister, Doris Johnson of Wilmington;   step-daughters, Arby Williams of Anchorage, Alaska, Judy Green of Lake Waccamaw; step-sons, Stan Young of Lake Waccamaw and Rudolph Young of Lake Waccamaw; three nephews; six nieces; and a host of great nieces and nephews and other relative and friends.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105, New Bethel Baptist Church, 1165 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Clinton, NC  28328 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC  28401.
