Charles Davis Smith, 65, of 325 Kitty Fork Road, Clinton, passed away on Saturday, April 11,2026, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville with his loving family by his side.
Funeral Services for Charles will be Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11 AM at Plainview PFW Baptist Church with the Rev. Chubby Reiber, officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at Grandview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 5 – 7 PM at Crumpler Honeycutt Funeral Home and other times at his home.
Charles was born on April 3, 1961 in Sampson County and was the oldest of the 3 boys born to Charles Phillip Smith and Jackie Jackson Smith and was married for 43 years to the love of his life, Tammy Pope Smith. Charles was owner of Pope Roofing Company where he started working in 1985 with his father-in-law, Preston Pope and Uncle Paul Pope. After Preston and Paul passed away, Charles continued the legacy of Pope Roofing. The legacy will continue with the third generation, carried on by his son Charles Terry Smith. Charles was very proud to have been voted Sampson County’s Best Roofing Company for 14 years.
Charles made it his mission after surviving cancer in 2008 to call, pray and encourage those that were currently in a battle themselves.
He was a member of Plainview PFW Baptist Church. Charles loved to leave you with a joke and telling you about his Jesus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tammy, his son, Terry Smith (Cherish) and daughter, Amanda Underwood (Sam), parents, Phillip and Jackie Smith, grandchildren, Maddison, Nelson, Dawson, Drake, Zoie, Davis and Hailey. He is also survived by his brothers, Mike Smith (Lecia) and Greg Smith (Ann), Uncle Jim Smith (Pam) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
