Mrs. Catherine Ann Thornton, 76, of 1325 Harmony Church Rd., was welcomed home by her Heavenly Father on Saturday October 15th where she is now pain and cancer free. She passed away at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

Cathy was born in Sampson County and was the daughter of the late Respes Lee Tyndall, Sr. and Elsie Lee Barker Tyndall. She was also preceded in death by her husband Toby Thornton, grandson, Thomas “Kent” Thornton, and brother Respes Lee Tyndall, Jr.

Cathy is survived by two sons: Timothy Thornton, Drew Thornton (Tammy), grandchildren:  Ashleigh Fermanides (Robbie), Andrew Thornton (Taylor), Hana Baggett (Riley), great-grandchildren: Caroline Baggett, Dustin Baggett, Madelyn Fermanides, brothers: Allen Dale Tyndall (Ann), Junius “Davis” Tyndall (Trudy), and sister Beverly Baldwin.

Cathy retired in 2008 as a bank teller from BB&T but continued to work in the banking industry. After 51 years of experience, she officially retired from the bank. Cathy worked with Rouse & Peterson CPA for the past few years. She was a faithful and active member of Harmony Baptist Church where she served as the church Treasurer for twenty plus years. Cathy was a member of her church choir and enjoyed singing for the Lord. She ministered to others as a member of the church’s WMU by making cheer baskets for the nursing home, participating in fundraisers for the building fund, and various other projects.

Family was extremely important to Cathy. There was never a place too far for her to travel to watch her sons, grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews play sports, participate in pageants, school plays, or dance recitals. Celebrating birthdays, family reunions, and class reunions always gave her an opportunity to fellowship with those she loved.

The family will receive friends Monday October 17th, 6 – 8 P.M. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 18th at 2 P.M., at Harmony Baptist Church with the Reverend Michael Hall and Reverend Diana Hales officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
