Carolyn Brewer Sumner of 5005 Garland Hwy passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at the home surrounded by family.

She was a native of Sampson County and the daughter of Bennett Langdon and Letha Caroline Brewer.  Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clete Sumner.

Carolyn and Clete had three children; daughter Glenice and husband Brad, Barbara and husband Glenn, and son Jesse and wife Marsha.  Grandchildren; Wayne (Kristen), Ashley, Joe (Rachel), Shaun (Casey), Elizabeth and Emily; great grandchildren; William and Addie Hollowell, Bradleigh Kate Webster and Townes Hollowell.

Carolyn is survived by two brothers Fulton Brewer (Pat) and JImmy Brewer, sister-in-law Linda Clifton and brother-in-law Kenneth Sumner (Rita).  Carolyn was preceded in death by brothers Grover Brewer, Bobby Brewer and a sister Marie Humphrey.

Family held the highest order in Carolyn’s life. Looking after grandkids whether they needed a ride to practice, a trip to the Dairy Queen or kindness and love when they were sick was a central focus for her.

Carolyn was a member of Epworth Methodist Church for many years where she served her church on many committees.  Carolyn was a worker bee and always led by example whether at church or supporting those who were homebound or in an assisted living facility. Doing for others is what made Carolyn happy.   Carolyn was also a giver to those less fortunate.  Many were helped by anonymous gifts from Carolyn.

The family would like to give special thanks to Sherri Parker, Kay Hobbs, Mildred Matthis, Norma Wright, Nettie Sue Pope and Becky Warren who cared for her through her illness and Lisa Tyndall her special hairdresser.

A funeral will be held Friday morning at 11 am at Epworth Methodist Church with Rev. Chris O’Briant officiating.  The burial will be immediately after the service at the church cemetery.  Friends will be received at the graveside.
