Carolyn Smith Ray, 79 of Clinton passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

A Graveside service will be Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1 P.M. at Onslow Memorial Park, 3280 Richlands Hwy., Jacksonville, NC 28540.  

Carolyn was born on September 3, 1946, to the late Lamerick Smith and Roberta Jackson Smith and was the widow of William Ray. After graduating high school, Carolyn trained as a cosmetologist and worked as a self-employed hairdresser.  Carolyn attended Plainview PFWB Church. 

Left to cherish her memories are two sons, Steven Allen Matthews and Vincent G. Matthews and one grandson, Zachary Matthews (Rima).
