Bertus Lee Brewington, 90, of 53 Bertus Lane, Clinton, NC, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, October 20th at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Chris Webb, and Rev. Dr. Randy Simmons officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and at other times at the home.

Bertus was born July 17, 1934 in Sampson County, NC and was the son of the late Henry Ashford Brewington and Mary Jones Brewington.  He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.  Bertus served his Country honorably in the United State Air Force.  He later moved to Long Island, NY and started a family. He was a member of and sang Bass in the Farmingdale Baptist Church Choir and Quartette. He also served as a Deacon and Trustee for many years. Bertus was an integral part of his children’s lives by actively participating in Boy Scouts, Baseball, Softball, Band, Block Parties, Pool Parties, Scavenger Hunts, Camping Trips, School Activities, the Church Garden and all other Church functions & activities. He was always present. Bertus was a career truck driver who started as an Over-the-Road hauler and later pivoted to local driving as a member of the Teamsters Local #707. Bertus chose to retire back home in Clinton, NC where he was afforded the ability to travel, help others, remarry and widen his circle of family members, all while continuing to be a shining light in his community.

Bertus is survived by his loving wife, Rosie Maynor Brewington; daughter, Maretta Brewington; sons, Marcus Brewington (Carin), Mathew Brewington (Laurie) and Micah Brewington (Holly); stepchildren, Gary Ruffin (Tiffany) and Shauna Harper (Jamie); ten grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; sister, Mary Raines; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
