Annie Kate Currie Spearman, 87, of 4836 Taylors Bridge Hwy., passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Wilmington.

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 24th at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Lynn Bullock officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 PM – 1:50 PM just before the service at the church.

Annie, born November 15, 1938, in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late John Currie and Flonnie Watson Currie.  She retired from Carolina Power and Light and was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Howard Spearman and sister Irene Parsons. 

Survivors include her children Brenda Kay Spearman Matthis (Larry), Jeff Spearman (Angie) and Mark Spearman (Lucretia), grandchildren Kayla Matthis, Sabrina Fouty (Zach), Brittany Bullock (Daniel), Cameron Spearman (Casey) and Carter Spearman (Emma), seven great-grandchildren, and siblings Jean Hairr and Joyce Hodges (Albert).

A special thank you to “God Sent” caregiver, Jenna Williams, for her compassionate care and love of Ms. Kate, “grandma”.
