Angela Byrd Matthis, 64, of 1940 Beulah Church Road, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at ECU Health Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, NC.

Funeral service will be held at 12 PM, Saturday, December 20th at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Cotton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Byrd Cemetery on Beulah Church Road, Turkey.  The family will receive friends from 5 PM – 7 PM, Friday, December 19th at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Angela, born August 2, 1961, in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Don William “Shorty” Byrd and Ethel Jane Smith Byrd.  She was a member of Turkey PFWB Church and home health personal caretaker.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Kirk Matthis, sister Sharon Barber, brother-in-law Rusty Barber and special friend Willie Baker.

Survivors include: children, Brandy McLeod (Jamie), Lewis Matthis (Dee), Travis Matthis, Dion Ammons-Matthis (Nick) and Jessica Edwards; grandchildren, Bryton Hill, Willow Hill, Steven Matthis, Blake Matthis, River Matthis, Margie Reece, Christian Ammons, Cameron Matthis, Chelsey Matthis, Braxton Matthis, Aiden Ammons, Destiny Ammons, Justin Bulwin, Tyler Matthis, Ethan Matthis and Breighlyn Ammons; seven great-grandchildren;  sister, Missy Jackson (Tim); niece, Samanthan Bowen (Kyle); special friends, Elaine  and Allen; and several great nieces cousins and friends.
