Alpheus Earl Buckner (January 25, 1954 – October 4, 2020) - CLINTON
Alpheus “Al” Buckner passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 11:00AM in Clinton Memorial Cemetery, with the Revered Tim Ameen, officiating. Due to COVID-19, the family requests social distancing and that everyone wears masks at the service.
Al was born to James Earl and Mary Ann Buckner on January 25, 1954, and was a lifelong resident of Clinton. A 1972 graduate of Clinton High School, Al later worked delivering soft drinks for Roberson Beverage Company, was a long-haul truck driver for the Lundy Packing Company, and owned and operated AJ Motorsports in Dunn, North Carolina for more than seventeen years. Al was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed being outdoors, especially surf fishing on Portsmouth Island.
Al was preceded in death by his father, James Earl, his mother, Mary Ann, his brother, Chris, and his grandmother Lula.
Al is survived by his loving wife of more than forty-six years, Wanda, his twin sons Matthew (Kristin) Buckner, of Smithfield, Benjamin (Jessica) Buckner of Raleigh, his grandsons, Carson and Beauford, his cherished cousin, Bill Butler, his brothers, Mike and Lee Lane, and his loyal dog, Maggie.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jason Boyd and all the staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology and Liberty Hospice, and his caregiver Janet Giddens for the wonderful care and attention they provided Al over the last months of his life.
