Mr. Ronald Dean Ellis, 52, of 419 Belvoir School Rd. passed away Sunday, December 16th 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 21 at Grove Park Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Threatt and Reverend Kim Strickland officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening December 20th at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home from 6-9pm and at other times at his home.
Born on April 27th 1966 in Sampson County, Ronald was the son to the late Howell Ellis. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and an avid outdoorsman. Ronald enjoyed camping in the North Carolina mountains, hiking the Appalachian Trail, diving in the Florida Keys, and sitting by a campfire underneath the night sky.
Ronald was a dedicated employee at Prestage Farms for thirty-one years serving as a Nursery Serviceman. His life in emergency services has spanned two and half decades in both fire and rescue. That time began as a volunteer at Herring Volunteer Fire & Rescue in 1993. It later included a part-time career as a firefighter and rescue technician at Clinton Fire Department. He also was one of the most instrumental founding members of the Sampson County Dive Team and a rescue member at Roseboro Rescue & EMS. During his service at Herring Fire Department he served in an officer position. He served on the Board of Directors at Roseboro Rescue & EMS and was a Lieutenant of the Sampson County Dive Team. His service also included serving on the Rescue Officer Certification Validation Committee for the North Carolina Fire & Rescue Commissions Certification Board, the Personnel Committee for the NC Association of Rescue & EMS, and as an instructor with the NC High Angle Rescue School.
The certifications he obtained included Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Emergency Vehicle Driving, Driver Pump Operator, Emergency Rescue Technician, Public Safety Diver, Emergency Medical Technician Basic and a graduate of NC High Angle Rescue School. In addition to the certifications he held, he was certified as a Level II Fire and Rescue Instructor and qualified to instruct in the following areas: Firefighter II, Technical Rescuer (TR) which includes Ropes, TR Vehicle Extrication, TR Machinery & Ag, and TR Wilderness. His teaching career began at Sampson Community College in 1997 and over the next two decades included several other community colleges across the state.
Ronald is survived by his loving wife of thirty years and high school sweetheart Theresa Ellis of the home, sons Brandon Ellis of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Blake Ellis of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He is also survived by his Mother, Gracie Ellis; Sister, Cindy (Brad Johnson) of Clinton; and Brothers, Timmy (Wanda Ellis), and Kevin (Erin Ellis) all of Clinton.
