Helen Peterson Register, 85 of 1935 Wilmington Road passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Her family extends an invitation to Celebrate Helen’s Life in the Fellowship Hall at Turkey Baptist Church on October 11, 2018 at 1:00 until 2:00 pm.  A graveside service will be held at Devotional Gardens in Warsaw, NC on October 11, 2018 at 2:30 pm.

Helen was born on November 3, 1932 and was the youngest daughter of the late Leslie and Elizabeth Evans Peterson.  She was proceeded in death by her siblings: Nadell Peterson, George Peterson, Ruby Peterson Todd, Ruth Peterson Merritt, Joyce Peterson Shipp, Sarah Peterson Lytch, and John Peterson.

Helen was a retired US Postal Service employee and a homemaker who deeply cared and loved her family.  She was a member of Turkey Baptist Church and served as the Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, and WMU Director.  She served for 2 terms as Associational WMU Director at Eastern Baptist Association.

Helen had a contagious love for missions and serving others.  She shared her love of missions as a volunteer with the NC Baptist Disaster Relief (cooking unit); volunteered with the NY Association of Missions and helped with construction work on the John Rice Baptist Center; served in a major role along with her husband, H.J., and several military families with the construction of the first Southern Baptist Church in Long Island, NY (1966).  She was always one of the organizers for church events and loved Turkey Baptist Church.  She served as a volunteer for Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and the first to prepare a meal for families in her community.  She was best loved for her boiled peanuts (H.J. helped because he grew the peanuts!)

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Henry James Register, Jr. (H.J.), a daughter, Donna Landes and husband Richard of Clinton; a son, Kenneth James Register of Kinston; granddaughters, Melinda McCullen of Winston-Salem; Carla Landes Carrol and husband Anthony of Clinton; and Laura Landes Holland and husband Steven of Clinton.  Great-grandsons Devon, Trey, Bentley; and great-grand-dogs Max and Tucker.

Helen had a special love for her fifteen nieces and nephews; talked to them and visited often.

Memorials may be made to Turkey Baptist Church, P.O. Box 159, Turkey, NC 28393.
