Dorothy Evelyn Simmons, 83, of 826 Mt. Moriah Church Road, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M., Friday, June 15, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Cummings, Rev. Dr. Mike Cummings and Rev. Charles Locklear officiating.  Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Garden.

Dorothy, born in 1934 in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Lloyd Lee Jones and Mettie Bee Brewington Jones.  She was a CNA in the Healthcare System and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by; husband, Romie Gaston Simmons; son, Mark Simmons; and brothers, Thomas Jones and Linwood Jones. 

Survivors include; sons, Eric Simmons (Sue) of Pittsboro and Alfred Puelo of Washington State; daughter, Ginger Simmons Stone (Logan) of Clinton; grandchildren, Stacy Erickson, Bradford Luchenbill, Hailee Stone, Kirk Stone, Amber Simmons, Christopher Simmons, and Justin Locklear; eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Earlise Jones of Fayetteville, Howard Jones of Salemburg, Herb Jones of Clinton, Lois Torres of Clinton, and Joyce Royal of Newton Grove.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 14, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and at other times at the home of her daughter at 792 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Clinton.
