Mr. Carl Edward Southerland, 95, of 1914 Southeast Blvd of Clinton passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 4th, 2018 at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Park Baptist church with Dr. Gary Threatt and Reverend Michael Shook officiating. A burial service will follow in the Clinton cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton, 118 Fayetteville St., and other times at the home.
Born on October 3rd, 1922 in Sampson County and was the son of the late Spencer and Stella Southerland. He married the love of his life, Aleen Smith Weeks on October 15, 1958 and happily lived in Clinton surrounded by his family for nearly 60 years. He was a retired truck driver for Lundy Packing Company. Upon retirement he worked with D&R Auto Sales transporting vehicles. He was a loyal member of Grove Park Baptist Church and active in his Adult I Sunday school class, and he loved good gospel music. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hosting fish fries for family and friends. He was very involved with the lives and activities of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Aleen Weeks Southerland; son, Ray Southerland and wife Debbie; daughters, Cathy Cole and husband Curt, Brenda Matthis and husband Bobby, Peggy Deans and husband Dewayne. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Tessa Eaddy (Jason), Chance Cole (Jade), Katelin Cole (TJ), Justin Matthis (Tiffany), Lindsey Faircloth (Neil), Laura Deans, Blake Southerland (Marianne), and Taylor Southerland. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Talon Howard, Nora Eaddy, Addaleigh Faircloth, and Rosalie Cole. He is survived by one sister in law, Edith Southerland and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, Spencer and Stella Southerland, he was preceded in death by his brother Raeford Southerland and sisters, Zelma Butler, Mildred Ward and Azalene Wilkerson.
