Donald Ray Simmons, 80, of 4641 Bass Lake Road, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at home. 

A funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend John Hobbs officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Ray, born in 1937 in Sampson County, was the son of the late Miles Costin Simmons and Jathronia Holland Simmons.  He was a famer and a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Arthur Simmons and sister, Jeline Simmons Royal. 

He is survived by;  his wife of sixty years, Judy Hobbs Simmons; children, Donna Simmons Boone (Mike) of Clinton and Kenneth Ray Simmons (Holly) of Clinton; grandchildren, Dawn Boone Daughtry (Derek) and Dylan Ray Simmons; great-grandchild, Isabella Reese “Belle” Daughtry, and soon to be great-grandchild, Alley Ray Daughtery; brother, Miles Oscar Simmons; step-grandson, Ryan Burgess; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. – 8 P.M., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home, 118 Fayetteville St., Clinton, NC  28328 and at other times at the home.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1481 Fleet Cooper Road, Roseboro, NC  28382.
